UPPCS Prelims 2026: A 12-Week Plan for Paper I, CSAT and Uttar Pradesh Special

UPPCS Prelims 2026 is on Sunday, 6 December 2026. From Monday, 14 September you have 12 weeks. That is enough time to cover the syllabus once more, practise properly and revise twice, as long as each week has a clear purpose. Here is a plan built around the way the UPPCS papers are set.

Start from the paper

Both papers deduct one-third of the marks for a question for each wrong answer. Paper I questions are worth about 1.33 marks each and Paper II questions 2 marks each.

Two consequences shape the plan. First, CSAT cannot be ignored: it is only qualifying, but a low score removes you regardless of Paper I. Second, the papers mix national topics with Uttar Pradesh, and the Main exam now has two full papers on the state, so UP-specific preparation pays twice.

The three phases

Weeks 1 to 6: build

Every day in this phase: 45 minutes of CSAT, one hour of current affairs, and 25 to 30 Paper I questions from previous UPPCS papers on the subject of the week.

CSAT every day, not at the end

Take a full CSAT paper in the first week to find your level. If you score comfortably above 100 out of 200, two practice sessions a week will keep you safe. If you score below 80, give CSAT 45 to 60 minutes every day until you are consistently above 100.

Split your practice across the areas that decide most CSAT marks:

• Comprehension: read one passage a day and answer only from what the passage says, not from what you know
• Mathematics up to Class 10: percentages, ratios, averages, time and work, speed and distance, number system and basic geometry
• Reasoning: series, coding, directions, blood relations, syllogisms and simple data interpretation

UPPCS CSAT also includes General English and General Hindi up to Class 10. Revise grammar basics in both, because these are some of the quickest marks on the paper.

Uttar Pradesh special: build one notebook

Keep a single UP notebook, organised by subject, and add to it every day. The key areas:

• History and culture: ancient sites, the Buddhist circuit, medieval rulers, 1857, the freedom struggle in UP, music and dance traditions such as Kathak, crafts and festivals
• Geography: location and borders, physical regions, rivers and tributaries, climate, soils, agriculture and irrigation, minerals and energy projects
• Economy: the latest state budget and economic survey, expressways and industrial corridors, investment and export policies, and One District One Product
• Polity and administration: the state legislature, divisions and districts, local bodies and major state commissions
• Environment: protected areas, wetlands and Ramsar sites in UP
• Current affairs: state schemes, appointments, events and awards of the last 12 months

Weeks 7 to 10: practise

• Take one full Paper I test and one full CSAT test every week, each in a two-hour sitting
• In between, take sectional tests on your weakest subjects
• Keep an error notebook with three columns: the topic, why you got it wrong, and the correct fact or concept
• Go through the last five years of UPPCS papers by subject, so you see how often each area appears

Weeks 11 and 12: revise

Stop adding new material. Read the error notebook, the UP notebook and your short notes twice. Take one full mock of both papers each week in the same order as exam day, Paper I, a break, then Paper II, so you practise concentrating through both sittings.

Handling negative marking in Paper I

A random guess among four options does not help your score on average, but a guess after you have ruled out two options usually does. Answer what you know in the first round, then return to the questions where you can eliminate options.

Mistakes to avoid

• Treating CSAT as automatic because it is only qualifying
• Reading UP-specific material in the last two weeks instead of the first six
• Solving previous papers without checking why each answer is right
• Changing sources during the revision phase

Yes, for a revision-based plan if you have covered the syllabus once. Newer aspirants should spend the build phase on standard school-level sources and keep the practice phase short but regular.
